I recently bought a frontier with 108xxx miles, and I
have two questions.
1. I pulled the tranny out of my 01 frontier supercharged
3.3. It had a leak between the rear of the block, and the
bell housing. I was under the assumption that it was the
front pump/ torque converter seal. Once i got in there it
was evident that someone else had already replaced this
seal. (2 tranny to block bolts were loose on the bell
housing, also there was scratch marks on the outer metal
edge of the seal, where someone was prying the old one
out.) The seal that was in there is new, and it seems to
be in good condition. The truck didn't leak all the time,
it would have to be good and hot, warm up for about 20
minutes, but a four hour trip took me 2 quarts of fluid.
Also i don't see any nicks on the torque converter shaft,
until very near the converter itself. less than a half
inch. I'm not sure how far back the seal rides. Is there
any other seal inside the transmission that may cause a
leak from the front of the bell housing? also the torque
converter doesn't appear to have any cracks, or holes.
2. I didn't notice the crankshaft position sensor on top
of the bell housing, and ripped the wires clean out of
the plug when lowering the tranny. Do you know which side
each of the two wires on the harness belong? If not, what
can i do there? i appreciate any help you may have to
offer.

I replied last nite, but apparently had a PC malfunction.
Any scratch or nick on a sealing surface is not good.
Looking at the terminal end of the connector, blue wire
goes in the left side, black/white goes in the right side.

Ok, thank you. I was mostly concerned with the leak though, the old
seal appeared to be fine, although it was apparently replaced
recently. The shaft on the torque converter has no damage on the
matting surface to the seal.
