Ive noticed the heat in my truck seems to only be hot when I'm moving..
Sitting at lights and idling it seems to go cool.. Not actually cold but
noticeably cooler. My xterra used to do this also. What could cause
this?

Check the coolant level in the over flow tank, also check
for any "oily" scum in there. Possible coolant is getting
into the ATF.

Hi, More than likely you have air in the cooling system. When you get to a red light and the truck returns to idle the coolant stops circulating or slows dramatically to the heater core. When you leave the light you step on the gas revving up the engine and begin circulating hot coolant to the core again thus you feel the temp go up. Try just revving the engine in neutral at the next light and see if it heats back up. Prolly just burp the system and see if works. If it fixes but returns soon after, then you have other issues of how the air is entering the cooling system. Good luck

I have found out when you fill the radiator, put the front of truck on ramps, air will go to the highest point and the bubbles should dissipate, course, this would mean you have to drain and refill.

You might have a bad water-pump.Pull off the coolant hose from outlrt of heater core. chek the flow at idle,Should have good flow if not it will be very low.accelerate at a high rpm and if flow is faster and more volume then waterpump is faulty.

My wife's Mini Cooper had the same problem. We even explained it to the
dealer and they said that we must be wrong. Later, during a normal fluid
level check that I do, I noticed the coolant level was low. I added just under
about 2 quarts of fresh coolant. That solved the problem.
