Please excuse the length of this post, I am hoping for any tips as to this issue.
I have a 2011 4x4 Frontier Crew Cab with 9780 miles on it. I performed the second oil change at approximately 8200 miles using Amsoil's Signature Series 5W 30 Synthetic Oil. I checked the oil after approx 1500 miles and noticed the oil color was a burnt orange or amber. I had the oil tested and the results stated that there was gas in the oil which was affecting the viscosity of the oil. I took it in to the dealer where they could find nothing wrong. I convinced them to change the oil but after I got home and checked the oil...it was the same burnt orange color.
Thanks

Sorry to hear about that, are you getting bad MPG?
Any smoke coming out of tail pipe?
Is the oil reading over full on the dipstick?

FZirst of all, the color of oil is NOT a good indicator of any issue.  If you had the oil tested, how much fuel was in it?  Did the viscosity drop out of range for the oil you were using?

What are your driving habits?  Do you do a lot of short trips (under 5 miles) where the oil never really warms up?

I would like to see the data from your oil analysis.

Sorry I have been out of town. There is no smoke from tailpipe and gas mileage is about 17-19 mostly around town driving. I would say the oil level is right at the top of the dipstick.
As for the results of the oil analysis and I quote " Results of the analysis indicated minor fuel dilution of 1.6%. There was no water or coolant contamination. No abnormal wear was detected, but the viscosity of the oil has decreasedd to the low SAE 30 level. For only 1487 miles on the sampled oil fuel dilution at 1.6% may be an indication of an abnormal operating condition occurring."
I agree with the statement that the color of the oil is not a good indicator of an issue but the color did lead me to have the oil tested. Driving habits are 10+ miles one way daily, very few short trips. I have a meeting with a Nissan Rep on Thursday. I will let you know what happens. Thank you both for replying, I appreciate the feedback. If you think of anything else let me know.

I agree.  1.6% of fuel in the oil is high.  You should definitely talk to a Nissan rep.  Your mileage is about right for around town driving.  It may be that you are getting too much fuel on cold startup.

However, if you take this truck out and drive it 50-60 miles, you should burn off the fuel in the gas. Did you get any wear metal numbers with your oil analysis?  If iron, copper, lead and aluminum are higher than normal, this can be the result of diluted fuel but on an engine as new as yours, you are still going through break-in and metals will be higher as a result.

Let us know what the Nissan rep says when you talk to him.
