I need a little advice with my 2001 Nissan Frontier. It
is
a 2wd and I am getting some loud squeaking from the front
suspension. It only does it when the wheels are turned
pretty far left or right and I go over a bump like when
backing out of a driveway or even when I stop quickly.
Anything that causes the front suspension to go up and
down
with the wheels turned. I first thought it was the
shocks
but now I am thinking ball joints.
Anyone had this issue or have any ideas? Can you grease
the ball joints? I know some vehicles don't even have a
grease fitting.
I should have mentioned it also has a loud popping sound
sometimes when backing up with the wheels turned to lock.
Thanks

Do you have an anti-sway bar on nthis truck? If so, the rubber "grommets that hold it in place can get dry, the rubber can wear, etc and give all kinds of wierd noises. Check those out first. If you have them, squirt a little silicone fluid in the space between the rubber and the bar. If this silences or reduces the noise, you know where the problem is. Usually best to replace these once they get bad.

Not sure if it has sway bars. I'll have to do some
checking. I've also read it could be the torsion bars.

Lube the steering stops on the lower control arms.

Thanks
I think grease on the steering stops fixed it. Haven't
heard it since. Cross your fingers.

Grover: I have the same truck and mine would make that
same noise. I replaced my centerlink/tie rod ends due to
dry rotting joints and took in in for an alignment and the
mech said my two lower ball joints were bad to they
replaced those with greasable ones and aligned it and the
noise is now gone and steers like it should.
If you hear it again, have it looked at by a
professional.
