Back again looking for some advice!

I have 156k on my 04 (2.4, 5 speed). When I'm idling I
can hear what sounds to be the throw-out bearing making
noise. My clutch still seems strong, but it has some age
so I'll just change the clutch, TOB and all that jazz
while I'm in there but I have another problem that I just
discovered.

I drive on the interstate every day to work 75-80ish, and
a couple months ago I noticed an intermittent squeak when
driving. Sounded like metal on metal, I figured it was my
AC clutch having problems or slipping. But today while
listening a little closer to my TOB problem with the AC
off and radio off, and I heard the squeak. It happens in
5th gear randomly but especially when under load. Going
at a low speed in 5th gear (about 40) if I get on the gas
and make the engine bog down, I can hear the squeak every
time. Its definitely something in the transmission and
not the AC :(

Couple questions...

-What could cause this?
-Could it be the TOB or another clutch component that
I'll be replacing anyway soon?
-If a rebuild is necessary, would this be something that
a mechanically inclined person could do in a decent shop
with a lift and a press? Any other special tools?

With the engine idling, trans in neutral, apply the clutch
and release several times, see if there is a noise(growl)
that appears with the clutch pedal out. You may have a
bearing failing in the trans. Easy trans to O/H w/ the
proper tools and experience.

Yeah, there's definitely a growl type noise that goes away
when I press the clutch all the way.

I've never rebuilt a trans before. I've rebuilt motors and,
changed out a clutch and do most of the rest of my own
repair work. And I have a Factory Service Manual for it.
Only thing I'm really concerned about are the special tools
required.

I'll see what a shop wants to charge and go from there.
