My 2009 Frontier has developed a crank/no-start problem.

 | 2 days ago at the close of work, it cranked with no
start. I thought, "Huh, that's funny." I cranked it
again and it hard started. Took awhile but it got there.
This was the first issue I've had starting. The
following morning I went out to start it up and crank
crank crank but not start. Tried and tried. No joy. I
let it sit for a day thinking it was cold, but wouldn't
start that evening or the following morning again.

Preceding this issue was a battery problem, which I
presumed unrelated. But the proximity of the issues
couldn't be coincidence, could it? This fall I removed
the battery, but re-inserted it. Upon putting it back
in, I was not able to tighten the negative cable very
well to the battery. It was there, but had some
slippage. I continued driving it. Several weeks later I
went to start and found it completely dead. Upon lifting
the hood I found the negative cable had slipped
completely off. This was disconcerting. I put it it back
on and tightened as best I could. It did not slip again.
But 2 mornings before the crank no start issue it was
completely dead again, like the time the cable slipped
off. I opened the hood and found it attached. I wiggled
it a little and the truck started right up. The same
issue occurred the following morning. Completely dead.
Again I wiggled the cable and it started right up. Then
that evening it had its first crank/no-start issue, as
 detailed above.

2 questions: I have seen on other forums that ECU relay
in the IPDM in prior model year had been recalled. My
issue sounds very similar to some of the issues
described with these recalls. Could it be the ECU/IPDM?
Second, could this be related to the battery issue? (I
have seen as much suggested on other forums as well.)

I am not a mechanic by any stretch. But the dealer is
telling me that I need to pay $1000 to fix this issue. I
want to make sure I'm not being taken for a ride. Thanks
in advance for any info you can give.

 | battery terminal is clean, clean the positive while you
are at it. Strange things happen when battery terminals
are loose or disconnected while running the engine. Is
your vehicle included in the ECU relay recall, I know 08
were, but I can't remember if the 09 is????? Is the
 charging system in working order?
