I recently bought a 2014 Nissan Frontier LS with automatic transmission.   I
am hearing a whining type noise whenever I accelerate over 40mph. When I
let off the gas pedal the noise goes away. The truck changes gears fine and
I don’t have any service lights on my dash. It has 227,000 miles on it but
was well maintained. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have had
several older Nissan trucks in the past and enjoyed everyone of them.

IMO it would be best not to drive it until it gets checked out.

1st thing that I would want to do is check out all the fluid level's,
especially everything related to the drive train. I would
immediately check out the Rear Axle Housing Fluid level and if
4wd the level in the front drive as well.   Rear Axle Seal's can
start to leak,, and when that happen's the Fluid Level can get
Waay Too Low.

Again Check All The Fluid Level's, Check out The Belt Pulley's,
and Everything that is Rotateing in Relation To Engine and
Vehicle Speed.

If You are knowledgeable to do this checking out yourself that's
ok, but if not,, I would want to take it to Nissan and get them to
check it out. If You don't trust Nissan then Another Shop That
You Trust. My Next Choice Might be Firestone, but My 1st
Choice is Nissan.   You want to talk with the Service Manager
and Try to Get The most Experienced Nissan Master Tech to
Check it out.

Check That Rear Axle Houseing out ASAP, If That Thing is Dry,,
You Want To get Oil in There Quick and hope that Severe
Damage hasn't been done.

All This is a Guess on My Part, So I'm Hopeing That it's
something that's as simple as a Pulley that needs replaceing.

Don't keep driveing it, until You Get It Checked Out, in an effort
to Prevent an Expensive Repair.

Let us know what You Find Out...
