I tried searching for this, but didn't come up with answers.

Do the new Fontiers come with a transmission cooler(automagic) and an external oil cooler?

I'm looking at the frontier and the tacoma, and the tacoma adds both of these coolers with the tow package, just wondering if the frontier already comes with them.

Thanks

Dave

..

dkizerian;

welcome to the group!  Here are a few thoughts...

... The life of the transmission relies on the life of the oil and the additives in the oil. The oil cooling cores in the radiators of modern vehicles that are operating at temperatures over two hundred degrees and are being taxed to handle the added heat of the transmission. And the oil is going back into the transmission too hot for long life. Most factory external coolers are mounted in front of the radiator and A/C condenser add heat to those cores.
... Add on coolers should be used as
pre-coolers in series with the cooling core in the radiator because cold oil does not work well in the transmission. . The job of the add on cooler is to help dissipate heat but why put this additional heat in front of the radiator and the air conditioning condenser?

… Transmission coolers can be mounted down under the bed. The cooler will be higher than the frame.

First look for a mounting place away from the exhaust system. The cooler will dissipate a lot of heat even without much air flow because the oil will be VERY hot when the transmission is under a load.

Mount the cooler in the hot out-put line between the transmission and radiator and it and it will be a pre-cooler. I used a clear piece of hose connected to the in and out cooling lines to find out which was which. After connecting the clear hose have someone start the engine while you watch to see which way the bubbles flow to tell which line is which. An after cooler would cool the transmission oil better but still put too much heat into the engine and be too cool in the winter.

... I mounted my pre-cooler to the top of the front skid shield (passenger side behind the radiator) on my 4.7 ‘99 WJ. I noticed later there was a nice safe place under the body behind the drivers seat. Mounting the cooler there with a half inch space between the body and cooler will dissipate a lot of heat before it even gets to the radiator. For HD towing a small fan could be installed.

TIP: I have noticed many stock cooling lines need to be insulated from headers and pipes...

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

Corn Ethanol: Our government is hoodwinking Americans and making a few people rich. We have a 50 cent per gallon tariff against importing ethanol and subsidize our ethanol refiners 54 cents per gallon with our tax dollars. And using Corn Ethanol will drive food prices up! Another case where lobbyists make the laws!

Lakota is right, it comes down to the fluids.  AMSOIL offers a synthetic automatic transmission fluid that resists breakdown in temperatures up to 100°F higher than conventional automatic transmission fluids.

Also, AMSOIL's synthetic motor oils excel in extreme temperatures.  In heat that causes conventional motor oils to lose as much as 25 percent of their mass, AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil loses less than 10 percent.

To answer your question, yes.  The Frontier's have these coolers.  They are built into the radiator.  I had the same question so I called the dealer and that is what they told me.
