I've had my '98 Frontier 2.4 XE King Cab for 2 years, occasionally towing way more than the engineers intended, and it runs like a Swiss watch.  Still, it bugs me a bit that Nissan trucks generally are cheaper than Toyota as used vehicles.

I got the Frontier specifically because it was more truck for the $ than Toyota, and I considered only these two brands (also 2 wheel drive, 4 cyl., manual, ext cab).

They seem identical in their specs, reliability, and appearance.  If we assume that the collective judgment of all customers determines used truck prices, and that we, collectively, are rational, why the better deal on Nissans?

Used Rangers are cheaper because they're worse.  That's rational.  Any ideas? data?

I think Toyota's are overpriced, and never plan to buy one. They got lucky in the 70's and 80's with their R series engine. They flood the market with advertising, more so than Nissan. A 2 year old toyota can cost more than a new one, makes no sense. I personally do not like their seating position, they get recalled due to the floormat gas pedal issue, and it does not seem to hurt them like it does with Ford. YEs Ford is not as good to begin with. Toyota's lastest issue now is the drive by wire throttle linkage that they say now is the blame for the floor mat issue.
