I just traded in a 1997 full size Chevy Z-71 off-road truck with a 5.7 liter engine after 10 years of ownership.  That truck took me a lot of places from Montreal to Mississippi; I live in Pa.  It was GREAT in snow and mud with Goodrich All-Terrains.  But....it nicle and dimed me all the time.  New alternator, repeated replacement of rear diff seal, transfer case seal, fuel pump, injector replacement, pinion bearings, etc.

Also, at age 60 I no longer needed the full size truck.  I wanted a smaller truck with good off-road capability, handling, reliability and power.  The small GM/Chevy trucks (Canyon and Colorado) were terrible.  Tested the Toyota, the Nissan and even the small Dadge.  Nissan won the contest.  Now I'll see how reliable Nissan is over time.

Thats the exact same reason I chose the Frontier...the colorado had a 5cyl engine(looked pretty weak to me)...the ranger sucked at acceleration...the dodge wasted to much gas and the tacoma was too ugly...the Nissan Frontier looked like a titan to me...but i loved it from the begining...the funny thing was that the guy was trying to make me buy a Titan...but i ignored him and ended up buyin my awesome Frontier! So great choice Boomer!

Family members have driven Rangers, Mazdas, etc. for years and years, to supplement their full sized domestics, which they use farming, etc. I bought an old Datsun pickup back in '77, and have driven them ever since, getting much better service out of "my" brand, than they did. I've seen neighbors and friends with the small Chevies and, again, stuck with Nissan, and again got better service than they did. Toyotas, too. I've talked with Dakota owners about their trucks, and all were unhappy about mileage, and some complained about excessive tire wear, etc. I guess I'm a stick in the mud, but with the service and reliability I've gotten out of the other three, I'm pretty happy with #4.
