Son bought me a new shift knob. The old one was worn smooth. No big deal to me but since he did buy a new one I thought I would change it out. I have tried to grip it and turn it but can't break it loose. Kinda scared to clamp on it with a pair of channel locks or vise grips. Has anyone tried this. I don't want to break the shifter or anything. This in on my 98XE KC. The shifter has the leather boot all the way up to the shift knob.

I have had the same problem with my 98XE as well and was
wondering the same thing. I want to change mine out too but
I am afraid of snapping something if I torque on it too
much.

It ain't eggs, you're not going to break it! Large channel
locks are your best friend for that job.
