Hey Guys,
I've read where many with a Gen II V6 Frontier have had
problem's with Air in their Coolant System either before or
after changeing the Coolant out.
I just changed the coolant in my 2013 Frontier V6 4L for
the 2nd time, following the Procedure in the Nissan Service
Manual and haven't had any problem's with Air in the system
or problem's with the Heating System.
Here is the Copied Instruction's from the 2013 Nissan
Service Manual:
ENGINE COOLANT : Changing Engine Coolant

WARNING:
• To avoid being scalded, do not change the coolant when
the engine is hot.
• Wrap a thick cloth around the cap to carefully remove the
cap. First, turn the cap a quarter of a turn
to release any built-up pressure, then push down and turn
the cap all the way to remove it.
• Avoid direct skin contact with used coolant. If skin
contact is made, wash thoroughly with soap or
hand cleaner as soon as possible.When removing components
such as hoses, tubes/lines, etc., cap
or plug openings to prevent fluid from spilling.
• Keep coolant out of the reach of children and pets.
DRAINING ENGINE COOLANT
1. Turn ignition switch ON and set temperature control
lever all the way to HOT position or the highest
temperature position. Wait 10 seconds and turn ignition
switch OFF.
2. Remove the engine under cover. Refer to EXT-15, "Removal
and Installation".
3. Open the radiator drain plug at the bottom of the
radiator, and
remove the reservoir cap. This is the only step required
when
partially draining the cooling system (radiator only).
CAUTION:
• Do not allow the coolant to contact the drive belts.
• Perform this step when engine is cold.

Following the Service Manual THIS IS HOW I DO MINE
on an Overnight Cold Engine while the Truck is on a
Relatively Flat Surface(Important for Drainage imo)
1. Loosen the Coolant Cap on the Reservoir 1st to release
any pressure, but keep it resting over the Top to prevent
Bug's from getting in.
2. Loosen the Radiator Cap but keep it resting on top to
prevent bug's from getting in.
3. Turn the ignition to ON, but don't start the engine;
Then turn the Heat Temperature setting to Hottest Position,
and Wait @ least 10 second's, I wait about 20 to 30
second's. Then just turn the ignition switch off.
4. Remove any Plastic Panel's from beneath surrounding the
Radiator Drain Plug.
5. Remove the Drain Plug (Don't lose the Rubber Washer on
the plug), and drain coolant into a Huge Pan.
6. After the Coolant Drain's out and it take's a long time
on mine. Maybe find something else to do until it
completely stop's Draining. (PUT THE DRAIN PLUG BACK IN)
7. Fill RADIATOR 1ST with Nissan Blue Long Lasting
Antifreeze until it is about 1/2" from the Top of the Neck,
and Put the Radiator Cap On and Tighten it.
8. Fill the Reservoir with the same, until the Fluid is
about 1" over the Full Mark. Put the Cap back on and
Tighten down. After Driveing Mine usually come's down a
little bit as the fluid fill's Void's and usually settle's
about 1/2 to 3/4" above the Full Mark.
9. After Cranking up, reset the Heater/Temperature
setting's to normal settings.
Note:
I try to use Geniune Nissan Coolant to help the Heater Core
last as long as possible. I found the cheapest this time @
Z1 OffRoad online. Sometime's I find it on EBay, Amazon,
or some other place at the Cheapest Price. @ some point I
may opt to go with Pentosin PentaFrost A3, which list's the
Nissan Part's Coolant # on their Site. I could have saved
about 3 $'s per gal. this time,, but didn't think it was
enough difference to use the PentaFrost A3.
I read a lot on the Nissan Truck Forum's and I've never
seen anybody discribe useing the Procedure in the Nissan
Service Manual. Maybe that's why they have problem's with
Air in their Coolant System and their Heating System not
working very good. I don't know.
I haven't had any problem's changeing my Coolant this way,
so maybe useing the method in the Service Manual will help
You Too.
