I have an 05 NISMO Crew Cab 4x4.  It has about 53K on it and I just noticed a problem with my rear axle/diff.  The truck is mostly driven on the highway for the last 30000 miles or so and occasionaly pulls a small boat (1500-2000lbs).  I changed all the drivetrain fluids about 20000 miles ago and used all nissan fluids.  Last week I noticed a little drp on the driveway and found it to be coming from a small fitting on the rear axle.  It looks to be a pressure relief vent, it is on the pass side of the axle about half way between the diff and the hub on top.  There is a little bit of fluid leaking out that if not wiped off for several days will be just enough to drip a bit.

I went to the dealer and they were no help.  They want 100.00 just to put their head under the truck and tell me if it is a problem or not.  I know this vent part is only 15.00 from the dealer.  Has anyone seen this or does anyone know what may be causing it?  Thanks in advance for any help!

I would say you might have put a little too much oil in the diff since you changed it. Either that or, the vent is messed up.  Pay attention to see if it drives different or if it has any weird noises to make sure its not letting out too much fluid. Or, if $15 and a little wrench time don't mean that much to you...just change the vent. If it still leaks, there is too much fluid...if not then the vent was messed up.

Good luck!

The diff is definitely not overfilled.  It would be a little hard to overfill it unless you were parked with the nose of the truck facing downhill.  I am wondering if anyone else has this truck or has seen this problem.  Thnks for the info.
