Hi everybody,

My truck:
2006 Nissan Frontier XE
Total KMs: ~96800 KM

Inquiry:
I completed my 96,000KM Scheduled Maintenance last
Saturday. I was advised by my Service Advisor that a
wheel alignment could not be done because my truck was
missing the Front Caster and Camber Bolts.

The Front Caster (Part #54580-75000)has been quoted: 4 x
$23.44 each.
The Camber Bolts (54559-12600) has been quoted: 4 x
$11.74 each and (08918-6441A is 4 x 3.38 each.
Labour is $135.00/hr and wheel alignment would take 1.3hr
for $129.95 and totaling $149.44.

Can anybody tell me what's the purpose of the Front
Caster and Camber Bolts in my Frontier?
I ask this
because prior to the scheduled maintenance, I have heard
soft squeaks coming from the front of the truck whenever
I am driving along cracked/uneven roads or when I make
right turns. The source of the squeaks seem to vary
between the front passenger or driver side tires.
Squeaks rarely occur on freeway (80KM/hr) or highway
speeds (110 KM/hr). However, before I make another
decision to let the dealership look at the estimated
parts, I should understand the role of the Front Caster
and Camber Bolts in hopes that it might be related to the
existing squeaking problem I have.

Here's hoping I get some information before I going any
further...thanks in advance!

The bolts aren't "missing", they are eccentric bolts that
are not factory installed. The purpose of the eccentric
bolts, is to provide adjustments to bring the caster and
camber in specs during the alignment procedure. Nothing to
do with your squeak, try lubing the hood latch and stops.
How are the tires wearing?

Currently, I have my winter tires on all four wheels. I
did not see any abnormal wear on the front tires.

Sounds like it's not serious, but I will still need to make
the time to do the above charges and get it done then.
With the current issue with the squeaking and doing the
96000 KM Scheduled Maintenance, I need a break from trying
to keep my Frontier running.

Thanks for the information!
