03 crew cab, V6, 5sp.
@70mph= 17.xx MPG
@65mph= 19.xx MPG

I think part of the problem with this truck and fuel mileage is the high gear ratio. At 70MPH the motor is buzzing 3000rpm.
I feel a more highway-friendly gear would help.

[QUOTE=disgusted]

I have a 2002 Nissan Frontier SE 4x4 Long Bed which is getting about 10-11 miles per gallon in City driving.  I have taken it to the local Nissan Dealer who, after testing the vehicle, indicated that there was nothing he could do about the low milage.  The only good thing about that experience was that the dealer did not charge me for the inspection.

I am disgusted and feel that there must be something to correct this problem.

Any ideas???

That does sound like pretty bad gas mileage. I had a 99 frontier(v6) for 11 years, and got around 19 or 20 on the highway even in it's last year with 289K on it. When I put a little more aggresive tire tire on, it reduced the mileage to 16 or so. My new 2010 (v6)has been getting 20. Something is wrong in my opionion, but I do now know what.

I have an 02 supercharged Frontier....proior to that I had an 04 quad cab hemi....I thought the gas mileage in the Frontier would be a little better but truth be told it is not. I think I am getting around 15mpg but I just filled the tank last night and I am going to keep a better eye on it now.

I know that keep a lighter foot on the pedal will help but if you have to accelerate like a damn turtle that I have to say the gas mileage just sucks and not blame it on driving habits. I mean it is damn right expensive to drive this truck around.

I love the truck but this almost makes you want to buy something else...if I knew I was going to get the same mileage as a big truck I would have bought a big truck...

I got a 2003 4x2 with 118,000 miles on her. While at the start it'll get
better milage than a v6, there are still a few things you can do.

I would recommend keeping up fuel treatments. you can buy decent fuel
additives at walmart for around $2.50 each that'll treat up to 21 gallons of
fuel. I put one of those in for every three tanks of fuel I purchase.

I also clean the air filter each month (you don't have to replace it, just
blow it out with an air compressor), change the oil (and filter) every 2
months, and drive 60mph instead of 70 like everyone else.

I'm supposed to be getting 20mpg on the highway. Last trip up the state
of california I clocked in at 27mpg flatlanding, and then 24mpg driving up
a 5% grade for 120 miles.

Let me know if that helped at all.

Hey everyone, name is Will and this is my 1st post. I have a question that maybe someone here can answer. I have the 06' 4.0 V6 auto crew cab SE Apporx 72k miles and I normally would get about 300 miles to my 1/4 tank mark. Recently (last 5 fill ups, diff stations and octane) I barely get to 220-230. Any idea what could be causing this or a remedy? Driving habits have been the same as normal and nothing unusual in cargo loads or traffic delays. I have checked the normal stuff (Air filter, tire pressure, ran a fuel system cleaner through her, just got new tranny fluid in it as well) and cannot figure out what is causing it. Any help is appreciated.

Will

Do any of you know why they put ethanol in gas? To lower the fuel mileage, not to extend the amount of gas that we have in the country. The cars and trucks get such good mpg that the gas companies needed a way to make more money and ethanol does them just fine. Go to a Pacific Pride gas station that the truckers use and get real gas without the ethanol and see what your mpg is after afew tank fulls. Mine went up 2 to 3 mpg after the second tank. Got to love those gas companies!

Hey lumpy2181 if you are getting 300 miles and still have a 1\4 tanks full of gas man that is some good mileage. I have a 2007 Nissan Frontier 4x4 crewcab with the 4 liter engine and the best I have gotten is 22 mpg. At the 1\4 mark I have only about 260 miles on mine. You do know that Nissan has had problems with their fuel gauges in the Frontier trucks. I have an extended warranty on just my gas gauge that Nissan sent me, there is also one on the radiator too. There is also a SB on the A/C drain that is not routed outside the cab and the passenger side floorboards will get wet and stay wet unless you have it fixed. Just to let you know.
